Hello and welcome! I’m Gaby Brereton, a geek, crafter and founder of eldrisCREATIONS. I’m UK based and use wool to create all sorts of needle felted animals, creatures and gifts. To the right you’ll find a slideshow of just a few of my creations! For those in the UK, EU and USA my creations are available to buy from the shop, though please note many are one of a kind creations and once they’re gone, they’re gone!
Please feel free to catch up with the latest from me on the blog.
The story of eldrisCREATIONS
So how did it all begin? I’ve been needle felting since late 2014 and have been working on my skills ever since. I first learnt of the technique while watching a crafts show on TV and I thought “That looks fun, I’ll try that”, followed by buying my first lot of wool and felting needle from Amazon. Needless to say, I was instantly hooked.
I’ve always been creative. I used to love doodling as a child, to the extent that I would often be told off at school for drawing in my notebooks! My creativity has taken many forms over the years, including digital painting, photomanipulations and photography. If you’re interested in these other skills on mine, please check out my DeviantArt gallery.
With all of these other mediums, I’ve never felt I’ve quite been able to fully realise the creature in my head. But the things I have needle felted, I really feel like they are much closer to the crazy ideas I have, and I’m so incredibly happy to have found this craft!
Opening the Etsy shop
I opened my Etsy shop in February 2015. This was a big step for me, because I was soon to be leaving my job due to health reasons. I had no idea what to expect or how to run a business. It has been such a steep learning curve for me, but I’ve learnt so many things I would never have without my shop. Especially how to keep accounts and submit a tax return!
Originally I started out selling jewellery, because I was so new to needle felting that I didn’t feel my skills where good enough to sell my needle felted creations. Eventually, with some encouragement from my husband, I started listing my needle felted animals and creatures. It took a little while, but eventually they began to sell. I was over the moon! At the beginning of 2016 I took another leap and decided to remove everything not needle felted from my shop.
I still have a lot to learn, and skills to improve. But I love to needle felt and am very glad to be able to share my creations with other people. I’ve also met a lot of lovely people on Etsy, some of whom have even become customers!
